Public Hearings:

There were two. The first was a public hearing regarding BRE Kimberly, LLC for performance based tax abatements for the construction of a shopping center in Kimberly to house a Publix grocery store. The agreement would not exceed $1-million dollars and be for a period of five years. There was no opposition present, Commissioner Stephens abstained from the vote. But, it passed. The address of the development is, 9176 Highway 31 N., Kimberly, AL 35091.
The second was vacation of right-of-way by Roads and Transportation. There was no opposition this item either and it passed.

Resolutions of note:

Intergovernmental agreement with the Tow of North Johns for roadway improvements on Coleman Road, Hutcheson Drive, Lavender Road, Thomas Drive, and Town Hall Drive
Resolution for General Services to enter into an agreement with Williams Blackstock architects for design of Roads and Transportation maintenance facilities. $1,427,830.

Community Grants by District

District 1: Commissioner Lashunda Scales

Community grant with Miles College providing $32,500 (D1: - $10,000, D3 - $7,500, D4 - $7,500, and D5 $7,500) for curriculum and educational materials and supplies, campus security, public safety infrastructure, marketing and community programs for county residents.
Community grant with Miles College for $8,886 for student body, alumni and entrepreneur recruitment and retention efforts.
Community grant with the Penny Foundation for $400,000 for the cultural immersion project supporting free musical events and cultural arts programming county wide, as well as health and wellness activities at district 1 senior centers and other recreational facilities open to the public in district 1.
Community grant with the Birmingham Board of Education providing funds for general education purposes to Inglenook Elementary, Oliver Elementary, WJ Christian Academy and Woodlawn High School

Community grant with the Jefferson County Board of Education for $30,000 to assist Bagley Elementary School with purchasing playground equipment.
Community Grant with Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department for $15,000 to assist with repairs to the fire engine.
Community grant for $10,000 to Teal Wings of Hope to assist with their Night of a Thousand Wings project.
Community grant with McCalla Youth Athletic Association for $300,000 to assist with funding for Greenwood Park Engineering Deisgn and park improvements.

District 4: Commissioner Joe Knight

Community grant with the City of Center Point for $18,500 to assist with the installation of a new playground and benches at Tom Henderson Community Park.
Community infrastructure grant with Central Alabama Water for $200,000 to assist with an infrastructure improvement in North Jefferson County.
